Atoosa Pour Hosseini (b. Tehran, 1981) is an Iranian/Irish visual artist based
in Dublin/ Ireland. She holds a MA in Fine Art Media from National College of
Art and Design, Dublin, as well as HND in Fiber Art at Ballyfermot College,
Dublin, and BA in Fine Art Painting at Azad University of Art and Architecture,
Tehran. She was awarded residency at the Guesthouse, Cork/ Ireland (2013)
and Amandus Adamson Studio Museum, Paldiski/ Estonia (2014) and has
received support for her practice from Culture Ireland and the Art council of
Ireland. She is a member of Black Church Print Studio since 2011 and Visual
Artists Ireland (VAI) since 2010.
Pour Hosseini’s practice, which includes drawing, painting, photography,
video and sculpture, has expanded more recently to embrace video
installation and performance art. She attempts to convey and examine several
recurring themes that relate to location, reflection, nostalgia and her
relationship with her surroundings.
Her ideas are triggered through observations made during everyday life, but
also through memories. Her work creates a very personal space, which is
both uncanny and obscure, favouring nostalgic and dreamlike atmospheres.
Her pieces usually dissolve narration in order to eventually reach an enigmatic
and mysterious state.
She regularly collaborates with Cork-based sound artists such as Mick
O’Shea, Strange Attractor (Danny McCarthy, Anthony Kelly, Irene Murphy,
David Stalling and Mick O’Shea) and also with Experimental Film Society.
Her works have been exhibited and screened widely both in Ireland and
internationally with works exhibited in the USA, UK, Netherlands, Italy,
Germany, Greece, Estonia, Brazil, Croatia and Iran since 2002.
